Prince has been gone for a few days now, and countless rapid fire parties dedicated to his music have already happened, and Prince’s hits have been heard many many times recently. But Prince was not just a monumental hitmaker, he has an incredibly deep catalog full of less known songs of the same caliber as Little Red Corvette, and he wrote many songs specifically for other artists, just as other artists covered him in huge numbers. So we wanted to do a night that truly did justice to the entire body of work of Prince. We wanted you to hear I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man and Seventeen Days alongside Let’s Go Crazy and 1999. Because of the way Prince exerted control over his catalog, he’s sometimes been a hard artist to explore, but we’ve done the legwork for you and we’ll be bringing you his best, all night long.
Note that this is not a regular edition of Feeling Gloomy (we’d been discussing doing a Prince night at FG for a long time, but we thought he might have too many exuberant songs), so it will happen on a different day, and regular edition Feeling Gloomy will be back later this month on 5/21. But, it’s the same space and setup you know and love, and the Brothers Gloom will be here to work the dancefloor. We’re also bringing in DJ Fucci for some extra firepower. We do not take Prince lightly.=
