Hello, YDH2S newsletter subscriber. As you may have noticed, big changes are afoot over here. We missed a month but we are back with a lot to show. Today we’re launching our brand-new YDH2S website. In it, you’ll find all kinds of dance parties all across Brooklyn. You can filter those by neighborhood, genre, DJ, promoter, date, and price. Or you can follow our picks and featured events. Every week or two, you should receive a full slate of our recommendations in your inbox, but the full, constantly updated list of dance parties is on the website. Look for our next newsletter in early December.
ALSO: There are a few of us running YDH2S but we could totally use your help! Do you put on dance parties in Brooklyn? Send ’em to us at info @ ydh2s.com. Are you interested in nightlife and want to help out? We need help updating our site (there are a lot of dance parties), our social media, and taking photos and video at our events, so contact us at help @ ydh2s.com if that sounds up your alley.
(This newsletter will be published as a fancy email as well as on our website. The site is be updated as things progress, so it’s always the most current. You can subscribe to the newsletter, follow us on Twitter, or read this newsletter on the website, eschewing the mere idea of subscriptions. Faugh!).

HEAD ON: 2014 vs 2004
2014’s almost over and we’ve reached that special time of year where music nerds everywhere are putting together their lists of favorites and trying to catch up on everything they missed. At Head On, we’d like to take it a step further. We’re going to ask: did 2014, the entire year of music, really stack up? And we’re going to answer that question the way we always answer questions at Head On: by dancing.
We’re going to pit 2014 vs it’s 00’s counterpart, 2004, and two of our DJs will face off, one for each year. A decade separates these two years, and music has changed a lot in 10 years. Can the likes of Future Islands, Duke Dumont, Charli XCX, & the Juan MacLean hold off the likes of the Faint, the Killers, TV on the Radio and Interpol? You’ll decide, by dancing your ass off and picking a winner, and the winner will keep playing in the back room the rest of the night, with the loser taking over the front room.
This party is also going to be the launch of You Don’t Have to Settle’s new website, a place where you can find info on all of Brooklyn’s best dance parties, filter by genre, venue, neighborhood, and see our picks.

ALL I WANT FOR XMAS IS THE CURE – a Feeling Gloomy pan-holiday Cure party
It’s that time of the year. That time of year when the sad and unhappy among us must watch helplessly as images of jolly fat men, laughing children, caroling coworkers, and festooned shopping extravaganzas are thrust mercilessly at us. Who can possibly save us from all this crap, we ask?
Our answer: Robert Smith.
Yes, Robert Smith. The gloomy chap dressed all up in black. He’s not likely to be riding a sleigh, but I could totally see him coming down someone’s chimney covered in soot. And then probably eating all your cookies and milk. Only a man brilliant and gloomy enough to pen Disintegration (aka the best unapologetically sad winter album OF ALL TIME) can get us through this holiday. Santa Smith is here!
Santa Smith will be on premises, looking not at all jolly in a red suit (though he may be able to pull off the bowl full of jelly bit) and will hand out crap presents to boys and girls who may or may not have been good. We’ll have some awful Christmas decorations, some angry elves (would those be dwarves? no, the height thing would still be an issue), some crappy mistletoe that you can look longingly at pictures of your ex under (you’ll almost believe that they are real), and drink specials, because Christmas. All that and we’re going to play TONS AND TONS of songs by the Cure. All the good ones you rarely hear like “Jumping Someone Else’s Train,” and “Burn,” and all the ones you always hear because you love them. Okay and maybe a Christmas tune or two.
ALL I WANT FOR XMAS IS THE CURE – a Feeling Gloomy pan-holiday Cure party
+ Santa Robert Smith will be on hand, and will give out terrible gifts
+ Our sad mistletoe will probably just make you more depressed, and so will our other decorations
+ Holiday drink specials (hooray!)
+ All of the songs by the Cure you’d ever want to hear at a dance party, plus some remotely festive (but gloomy!) holiday tunes, and all of your other anglophilic gloomy faves, courtesy of your hosts, Gordon and Nathaniel Gloom (who are surely getting coal in their stockings this year)
